L.E.A.D. is a brand-new program at Wilkinson Elementary School designed for Gifted and High-Achieving Students. We are excited to be able to offer this unique opportunity to our students and families, beginning in August, 2008.
L.E.A.D. incorporates both acceleration and enrichment into the daily curriculum in all subject areas. A key component of the program is project based learning across the curriculum.
- The ultimate goal of L.E.A.D. is to provide challenging instruction with an emphasis on problem solving, higher level thought processes, discussion, and high quality student generated products. This will all be done in a self-contained learning environment conductive to developing and expanding students' individual abilities.
- Research shows that gifted students in high-ability programs such as L.E.A.D. have produced marked academic achievement gains as well as increases in attitude toward the subjects in which these students are grouped (Rogers, 1991, see http://www.gifted.uconn.edu/nrcgt/)
